Biography

Dr. Norris is a cum laude graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology. He received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. After completing an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Dr. Norris joined the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

During that time, he served as Chief of Medicine at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology from the National Capitol Consortium at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, and an advanced endoscopic training program from the University of Maryland. As a member of the Army Medical Corps, Dr. Norris also served as a PROFIS physician for the 2/187 infantry battalion, the 3rd brigade combat team, and the 82nd airborne division, as well as served a six-month deployment to Mosul, Iraq. He later worked as a staff gastroenterologist and the director of endoscopy at Walter Reed. During his time with the Army, he received the Bronze Star Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Order of the Combat Spur, and was a three-time recipient of the Army Commendation Medal.

Most recently, Dr. Norris was in private practice in Nashville, Tennessee, where he also served as Medical Director for Quality Medical Research. He has held many academic appointments, including assistant professor of medicine for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and assistant professor of medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC.

Dr. Norris has been published in many peer-reviewed journals, including the World Journal of Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Endoscopy, and the Journal of Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases. He also served as an editorial reviewer for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Saudi Medical Journal, and for the American College of Gastroenterology Institute of Clinical Research and Education.

In addition to serving on the American College of Gastroenterology’s public relations committee, Dr. Norris is a member of the National Medical Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

He joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2016.
