Dr. Seema Maroo is a graduate of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where she completed a four-year accelerated program receiving a B.S. and M.S. in molecular biophysics and biochemistry. She received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.
Following her internship at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Dr. Maroo completed her residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She continued her studies there as both a research fellow and clinical fellow in the Division of Gastroenterology and during that time was awarded a grant for two fellowships for research training in gastroenterology. In addition, she served both as a teaching fellow in gastrointestinal pathophysiology and as a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School.
In 2006, Dr. Maroo was named an associate staff physician at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She served as an instructor in medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where she regularly supervised GI fellows in the inpatient procedures center.
Dr. Maroo has contributed to several medical publications on topics such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and clostridium difficile or C. diff (a bacterium that affects the colon). She also co-authored a book chapter addressing the liver during pregnancy in Handbook of Liver Disease. Most recently, she has been named to Atlanta Magazine's '2018 Top Doctors' guide in gastroenterology by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd.
Dr. Maroo joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2011.
