A native of Santiago, Chile, Dr. Galvez began his medical studies in Venezuela and received his medical degree from Central University of Venezuela School of Medicine in Caracas. In 1983, he served as a research fellow in the Department of Physiology at Harvard Medical School, then completed his internship and residency at Harvard Medical's New England Deaconess Hospital. Dr. Galvez completed two additional fellowships while at New England Deaconess Hospital, one in adolescent medicine and another in gastroenterology. He presently serves as an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Emory University Medical School.

Dr. Galvez' professional honors include Best National Scientific Study in Medical Sciences Award by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research in Caracas, Venezuela, and Outstanding General Medicine Staff Physician Award from the Caucagua Health Center, School of Medicine, Central University of Venezuela.

He is a member of the Georgia Gastroenterologic and Endoscopic Society, the Medical Association of Georgia, the Medical Association of Atlanta, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the Massachusetts Medical Society. Dr. Galvez joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 1999.
