A third generation physician, Dr. King graduated with honors from the University of Florida and received his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Following his internship and residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Dr. King completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Cincinnati. While there, he received the “Golden Apple" house staff teaching award.
Dr. King previously served as an assistant professor of medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine. He has published many articles in medical journals and was voted by his peers as one of Gwinnett’s Best Doctors in 2006. In addition, he was elected twice by local physicians to serve as President of the Gwinnett-Forsyth County Medical Society.
For his accomplishments and contributions to the field of gastroenterology, Dr. King was named fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association, fellow of the American College of Physicians, and fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. He is also an acting a member the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
In addition to performing colon cancer screenings and hemorrhoid banding, he is experienced in several advanced therapeutic procedures including radiofrequency ablation for Barrett's esophagus and ERCP. Dr. King treats patients with a wide variety of gastrointestinal diseases and has a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease, GERD, Barrett's esophagus, pancreatic and biliary disorders, and liver diseases such as viral hepatitis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
Currently, Dr. King serves as a clinical preceptor for medical students, both nationally and internationally. He is also a moderator for a GI journal club – a monthly meeting among GI physicians to discuss current medical journal articles. Dr. King enjoys volunteering and has served at many local community medical clinics as well as World Relief, a refugee resettlement agency. He has also participated in overseas medical mission trips.
Dr. King speaks Spanish and joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2000.
