Nitin K. Gupta, MD

Dr. Nitin Gupta is a magna cum laude graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. Dr. Gupta completed his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. During his schooling, he also served as a volunteer with Atlanta Community Toolbank leading individual housing repair projects.

Following his internship and residency in internal medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Gupta completed clinical and research fellowships in gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. He also completed a research fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. 

Most recently, Dr. Gupta served as director of inflammatory bowel disease at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in addition to several other academic and leadership positions. He has co-authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Science, Nature, and New England Journal of Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, the American Medical Association, and the American Gastroenterology Association with which he has previously held leadership and board positions. 

In addition to general gastroenterology, Dr. Gupta has a special clinical interest in inflammatory bowel disease including scientific research focused on advancements in diagnostic testing and drug therapies. When he is not treating patients, he spends time educating practitioners throughout the country on the various treatment nuances of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Dr. Gupta is fluent in Hindi and joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2018.
