David M. Martin, MD

Dr. Martin is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio where he received a bachelor’s degree in biology and French. He received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. After completing both an internship and residency at Emory University affiliated hospitals, he continued there to complete a fellowship in digestive diseases (gastroenterology) including a year of clinical and laboratory research. 

He previously served as the acting chief of gastroenterology at the Atlanta Veterans Administration Medical Center, as well as an assistant professor of medicine in digestive diseases at the Emory University School of Medicine. Since 1984, Dr. Martin has been in private practice, and in 1989, he established Atlanta South Gastroenterology, P.C. in East Point, Georgia. During that time, he held leadership roles at South Fulton Medical Center, such as chief of staff and board of trustees.

Dr. Martin has been published in many peer-reviewed journals, including Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Gut, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and American Surgeon. He is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians, a Fellow in the American College of Gastroenterology, and a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Society for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition. Dr. Martin is editor and publisher of the online Atlas of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy - an educational resource for physicians and patients featuring an extensive collection of more than 1,000 endoscopic images in health and disease.

In 2016, Dr. Martin and the providers of Atlanta South Gastroenterology joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates.
