Study Finds Rise in Colon Cancer Deaths for Younger Adults

Two American Cancer Society studies that were published in 2017 show the rise of incidence and death rates for colorectal cancer among younger adults. The latest study shows American adults under 55 are dying from colon and rectal cancers at an increasing rate and is a follow-up study to one that was published earlier this year that found incidence rates are rising in American adults under 50.

The reason for the increase remains unclear but is a reminder about the importance of colon cancer screening. Talk with your physician to understand your risk and the guidelines you should follow for testing.
