Center for GI Imaging

The Center for GI Imaging was established by Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates to provide more in-depth testing for our patients who need additional evaluation for specific gastrointestinal issues.  By offering these services within the practice, AGA physicians can manage the diagnosis and treatment of their patients more efficiently and patients are provided with a more convenient alternative for non-invasive imaging procedures. The Center for GI Imaging includes CT (Computed Tomography) Scans, CT angiography and CT enterography, as well as traditional ultrasound services.

The CT scanner uses special X-ray equipment to create multiple, high-resolution cross-sectional pictures that give our physicians a much better view of the abdomen and pelvic areas and the thorax, the area between the head and abdomen. Your AGA physician may order this test to evaluate abdominal pain or to evaluate particular organs, such as the liver or pancreas. The equipment is also used for CT angiography, a procedure that produces images of major blood vessels throughout the body, and CT enterography, a procedure that enables our physicians to examine the small and large bowel.

Abdominal ultrasound services are also provided through the Center for GI Imaging. These non-invasive imaging tests are used to evaluate the gallbladder, liver, bile ducts, pancreas, kidneys, and the abdominal cavity. In addition, a continuous sound wave commonly known as "Doppler" may be used during the ultrasound procedure to evaluate blood flow to and from the intestinal tract.
