A native of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Sánchez received her medical degree from the INTEC School of Medicine in Santo Domingo. She graduated as valedictorian with summa cum laude honors. While completing her degree, she also volunteered at several non-profit organizations including outreach clinics for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

After moving to the United States, Dr. Sánchez completed her internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida, where she received numerous awards for research. She was awarded “best resident” of her graduating class by her peers. Dr. Sánchez then went on to complete a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Missouri in Kansas City (UMKC), where she was granted the 2007 Presidential Award by the American College of Gastroenterology for her presentation on severe pulmonary hypertension in Whipple’s disease.

Prior to joining Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates, Dr. Sánchez was the associate director of the gastroenterology fellowship program at UMKC and served as an assistant professor of medicine at the same institution. Dr. Sánchez was also a staff gastroenterologist at both Mid-America Gastrointestinal Consultants and Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City.

In addition to presenting at numerous national gastroenterology meetings, Dr. Sánchez has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and Current Gastroenterology Reports. She is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the AGA Academy of Educators, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Sánchez enjoys all aspects of gastroenterology and she has special clinical interests in endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, and women’s digestive health issues.

Dr. Sánchez is fluent in Spanish, French, and Italian. She joined the practice in 2015.
