Dr. Elliott is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and served as a pilot for the U.S. Air Force for five years. Following active duty, Dr. Elliott received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in 1979, and completed both his internship and residency at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Dr. Elliott continued his medical training in gastroenterology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and was appointed an instructor in digestive disease.

Dr. Elliott has been a team physician for the Atlanta Braves since 1992, and holds the rank of Brigadier General in the Alabama Air National Guard. He also holds clinical assistant professorships in medicine at Emory University and Morehouse Medical School.

Dr. Elliott is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterologic Association, the American Medical Association, the Medical Association of Georgia, the Medical Association of Atlanta, the Atlanta Medical Association, and the American College of Physicians. He has been named a "Top Doctor" in Atlanta Magazine’s annual listing of the best physicians in the metro area four times.

Dr. Elliott joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 1986.
